TV Trends to Look for in 2018

January 24, 2018

How we watch and listen to TV is always changing, and that trend will continue in 2018. As we head into the new year, you can expect a few major developments when it comes to the world of television. Along with more jumbo-size sets in the store, you can keep an eye out for more enhancements in display, and increasingly sophisticated voice control among other TV trends.

TV Screens Will Get Bigger

In 2018, industry experts expect larger-sized sets to take a bigger share of the TV-buying market, especially if prices for these jumbo sets continue to shrink. According to Deirdre Kennedy, a senior analyst at retail market research firm Gap Intelligence, “A lot of this growth is driven by the rise of 4k TVs, which are primarily offered in 55 and 65 inch sizes where the benefits of higher resolution can be seen most strongly,” she explains.

Expect HDR Done Better

This is a trend from last year, however you can expect it to be improved upon in 2018. High dynamic range, or HDR, will be a hot topic among consumers and people trying to sell them televisions. While only pricier TVs from last year were able to deliver an effective HDR experience, the experts predict that newer 4K TVs will be able to reproduce the enhanced image quality that HDR content requires. Experts also expect that manufacturers will better optimize the TV’s default picture settings when playing HDR content, so consumers won’t have to make those adjustments manually.

Voice Interaction Takes a Leap Forward

As of right now, many TVs from major brands have some level of voice interaction, such as talking into the remote to change the channel or volume using voice commands. In 2018, a number of companies will take things up a notch by integrating digital voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home. These TVs will not only let you use these voice assistants to search for and access content, but also interact with and control other compatible smart home devices, such as lighting, thermostats, and speakers.

Here at Davis TV, we’re just as excited as you are for these improvements in television. When it comes to home entertainment, Davis TV is where you’ll want to be. Visit our store located at 2801 Ward Blvd. #4A, in Wilson, NC. See you soon!
